I think this is more a situation of wondering if they'll pay for this for you, isn't it? Being a parent, I can tell you that I would do this for my son if he asked if there was any way that we could afford the part that insurance might not cover. If your family has good health insurance, you want to make sure that you get this done before you turn 18 and aren't covered any more. There also may be psychological requirements that will have to be met before they'll cover it, so you'd better get busy with this.

If you have a relative that could break the ice with them, go that route. Maybe a brother or sister? A cousin or uncle? There must be someone who can get the conversation started. I was very close to my son at that age and am a bit surprised to hear that you can't talk to your mom about this.

If nothing else, write them a letter and hand it to them in person. I hope that they don't make light of this as I know this can be a huge problem for someone like you. I have to let you know though, one of my brothers has this problem and I've never even overheard anyone say anything about it. It's just a non-issue to him. He's married with kids, so it didn't affect anything in that area, either.

you need to sit them down just the 3 of you and say that you have a problem and thats what it is. Be very calm about it and if they really care about you then they will get you to a dr asap and get this fixed, also let them know how hard it is for you on a daily basis, please email me and let me know how this goes

You have to take a good quiet moment to do this:tell them your ambitions.About joining the army, but that you have a problem.
Then just tell them.
It's not the end of the world you know, they might respond very well.
